Riders progress through our loan pathway as they gain confidence, independence, and horse care skills.

Pony Loan Scheme

Our Pony Loan Scheme is a brilliant way for young riders to enjoy the experience of part-loaning a pony, helping them build confidence, responsibility, and a deeper bond with their favourite four-legged friend. We offer two levels of loan to suit different abilities:

TIER 1

Progression Loan Programme - Supported rider

For riders who still need support with riding or handling

Our Novice Loan is ideal for children who love ponies but still need guidance. This option includes hands-on support and is entirely lesson-based to help them grow in both skill and confidence.

What’s included:

  • 1 x 45 min lesson per week

  • 1 x 60 min lesson per week (inc 15 min stable management)
  • One full weekend day (Saturday) at the yard, joining in with all the fun!

Cost: £180 per month, all-inclusive.

What is the supported loan

A fully supported introduction to loaning, focused on building confidence and routine.

Structure:

  • 2 coached sessions per week
  • 1 structured yard session (not just hanging around)
  • Assigned pony
  • High staff involvement

Rider level:

  • Just off lead rein / early independence

Focus:

  • Grooming, tacking up
  • Basic riding control
  • Understanding pony care

Key outcome:

Rider can manage pony with supervision and ride independently at walk/trot

TIER 2

Progression Loan Programme - Intermediate rider

For riders confidently walking, trotting, and cantering unaided

The Intermediate Loan is perfect for more experienced riders who are ready to take full responsibility for a pony during their loan time. Riders will care for their pony as if it were their own, including:

  • Mucking out

  • Grooming

  • Turning in/out

  • Tacking up

  • Putting the pony to bed properly

Loan options:

There are no hidden costs – everything is included in your monthly fee. Within the Intermediate loan, you will get no help so you must be able and confident enough to ride unaided and handle the horse well enough to be able to confidently look after its care as well.

Loaners must have their own insurance, and provide proof of this to Hundleby Equestrian.

For £25 one off fee per day, ponies can be taken off yard to a competition for the particular day.

What is independent rider:

A step towards real loaning, where riders start doing things for themselves.

Structure:

  • 1–2 independent riding sessions (supervised, not taught)
  • Regular pony care responsibility
  • Assigned (or semi-assigned) pony

Rider level:

  • Confident walk/trot/canter

Focus:

  • Independence on the yard
  • Riding without constant instruction
  • Building consistency

Key outcome:

Rider can handle, tack up, and ride safely with minimal input

TIER 3

Progression Loan Programme - Part Loan / Advanced rider

What is an advanced rider

Closest thing to owning a pony without owning it

Structure:

  • 2–3 set days per week
  • Mostly unsupervised riding (staff on site)
  • Full responsibility on allocated days
  • Optional lessons add-on

Rider level:

  • Established, confident riders

Focus:

  • Responsibility
  • Routine
  • Bond with pony
  • Goal-based riding (jumping, hacking, comps)

Key outcome:

Rider operates independently and takes full responsibility for their pony time

Payments for ALL Loans are due by 1st of the month by 12 noon, otherwise your loan will be null and void for that month.

All loaners, regardless of level must have third party insurance through a scheme like the Pony Club or by BHS membership. To join the scheme, all riders must also hold at least their Pony Club E test, and be willing to take their D+ for the more indepedent loans.
