🐴 Learning Outside the Classroom

At Hundleby Equestrian Centre, we’re passionate about offering unique, hands-on learning experiences for home-educated children. Our weekly sessions combine riding lessons, stable management, and outdoor education in a fun, supportive environment that helps build confidence, independence, and a love for animals.

Whether your child is completely new to horses or already confident in the saddle, these sessions offer a fantastic opportunity to develop practical skills, make friends, and enjoy time outdoors—all while working towards recognised riding awards in a relaxed, non-academic setting.

For those who wish to take their learning further, children also have the option to work towards and complete their BHS Stage 1 qualification with Siân, our on-site BHS accredited coach, as part of these sessions.

The sessions run from 11:30-1:30 every Monday during term time.

During the sessions, children have the opportunity to follow the BHS (British Horse Society) curriculum. They can work towards rosette awards, riding achievements, and even their BHS Stage 1 qualification with Siân, our on-site accredited coach—if and when they feel ready.

All assessments are carried out gently and informally, so children can progress at their own pace without pressure or even realising they’re being assessed.

BHS Awards for Children

All riders aged 12 and under (primary school age) will follow the BHS Pony Stars programme, working towards certificates each term. To complete each level, riders must finish their workbook, which will be incorporated into our regular sessions.

For secondary school-aged riders, we will introduce elements of the BHS Stage 1 syllabus when we feel they are ready. If they would like to take the full Stage 1 qualification, this can be arranged in-house for an additional fee. Alternatively, they’re welcome to continue progressing through the Pony Stars programme if preferred.

You or your child do not need to have any riding or horse experience for the sessions and anyone is welcome.

We have put the sessions at 2 hours and everyone should bring a small packed lunch for a break in the middle.

The session will consist of approximately 30-45 minutes stable management and 30-45 minutes riding with plenty of breaks in between. NOTHING will be in a formal indoor setting and children will NOT be asked to sit down and write anything. Every session is very much hands on and outdoors - whatever the weather!

The cost is £25 per session. Or you can book Terms*:

  • Term 1 : 1st September - 23rd October = £150 for the term
